The Curriculum at Hart Plain Junior School

At Hart Plain we aim to provide children with a broad and balanced curriculum that will equip pupils with the skills and knowledge they need to progress in life.  The teaching of reading, writing and mathematics is the core purpose of our curriculum.

At Hart Plain we follow the National Curriculum. The Government have introduced a new National Curriculum which will come into force from September 2014. The next few years are therefore a transitional period for all schools.  Hart Plain has been working with schools locally and with Hampshire County Council to develop the new curriculum and we believe it is a great opportunity for the school to shape a new curriculum that will serve our pupils’ needs for the future.

This new curriculum is being developed to ensure that the National Curriculum programmes of study are covered and taught in a systematic, themed, and exciting context, which is relevant to children. Children will learn the English and Maths skills needed for life and which are necessary to progress in their education. They will be encouraged to be curious and use thinking skills to innovate, be creative and problem solve and  all of the National Curriculum subjects will be covered throughout the year through the teaching of half termly themed units.  Each half term a Curriculum Overview is sent home to parents. A copy can also be downloaded from the website.

Please click on the link below to see the curriculum overview by subject area.  The contents of the Maths and English curriculum and details for each year group can be found in the 'Children's Area' of the website.
