All members of Year 6 are given the opportunity to attend the Think Safe event (formerly known as Junior Citizen) which currently takes place at Fort Purbrook at the start of each academic year. At HPJS we recognise the increasing maturity of our pupils and the importance of them being able to deal with real life situations in a calm and safe way. This event allows such skills to be practised in a safe and controlled environment. The following inforamtion is taken directly from the Think Safe website which is available at:
About Think Safe
Think Safe is an active safety training programme in which children take part in mock ups of dangers they may face in everyday day life and learn through experience how to deal with them. Think Safe activities run throughout Hampshire, some are also called Child Safe, but all follow the same basic principles of raising awareness of top primary aged children in their own personal safety and the safety of others around them.
The type of activities they learn about include road, rail, water, fire, electrical, gas, dog, consumer, food, home, countryside, farm and range safety, emergency first aid, avoiding abduction and bogus callers to the door. They also have the opportunity to make a 999 emergency call to know what to do if a real emergency arises.
Think Safe is organised by a variety of agencies (see below) and the schools themselves. It is able to run due to the tremendous support of the agencies that participate in the various events and provide staff time and resources free. It is the commitment of everyone involved to educate children in Hampshire about safety to reduce accidents at home, school or play and to produce safer citizens for the future.
